Crazy Ass Flower by Pengueens Crazy Ass Flower by Pengueens
So I was digging through my old sketches and found this among them. Then I was like meh and decided to color it in, and then I was wondering what color it should be, and I was thinking "red..." nah. "piiink..." nah. then I was like "ZOMIGAWDGREEN!" and then like, "YEAYA!" and so it turned out to be green x3 and I also was thinking about some symbolic thing that was really cool and actually had meaning and shiz but then I kinda forgot about it. so ya xP

[EDIT]
It's been a very long time since I posted this and I would like to say a few things.

First of all, you had no reason to flining crap at me like that. There was a fucking bug in the system, and because the popular section is stupid and watched mainly by stupid people favoriting what they think other people think is awesome. Well fuck you. (I dont want to see anymore weird porn up there. You guys are dibshits.)
It's not my fault some people like it.

Secondly, unless you actually do like this picture, take it off your favorites. I dont like it when people follow other peoples' likes and dislikes. And I dont want this to become a rebellious icon of yours

"DUH this sucks"
nowai. u serious?
Fuck you if you're wasting my time like this.
Use words.
Sorry for the one actually helpful comment that was actually explanatory.
The lines are the way they are because I made them that way, not because I draw like a 6-year old. Although I bet you were making fucking masterpeices by that time.

Do you want to hear the point to this picture?

Notice the stem is as normal as it can be. The flower is green, bright, crazy, and SOMEWHAT abnormal. Symbolicly meaning don't always expect things to turn out normal.

Im not gonna take this down nor am I going to delete any of your comments. Thanks for the motivation fuckheads and ill remind you of this when Im 21 and doing better than you

hi, i was like comment number 5 and this popped up on my favorites on my page that was scrolling through and i thought, "gee i like the color". People make me laugh at how serious they take art. If you were making a living on this flower print, then i could see someone saying something. But all of the blathering on is silly. I'm sorry people were dumb. This drawing looked like it was fun to make, fun to color, and just friggin' nifty. They act like the front page spot is the featured gallery in the Lourve. I faved this picture because it made me think something, even just as simple as the color. It's cool. When I fave stuff, it's not to declare the work a masterpiece. I just liked it. It has a nifty color. Best of Luck my friend :]

OMFG ESTIE EFFEW PEOPLE.

Seriously. You don’t know how it happened. I don’t know how it happened. She doesn’t know how it happened. NO ONE KNOWS HOW IT HAPPENED. She knows she “should have colored in the lines” and that “roses are red.”

SHE KNOWS.

Do you really need to say it… AGAIN? In long, boring, pointless paragraphs? Do you really?

No. You don’t. So stop. Use the time you will spend replying angrily to this comment on getting the life you don’t have.

Well, I guess everybody is getting a bit over-excited with this deviation instead of focusing on the real problem.

First of all, this deviation had a very small number of favs when it went to the frontpage. It's because it was on the frontpage that it's comments and favs increased. No matter if a work is good or bad (I'm not going to enter into subjective judgement here), if it is on the frontpage, it will get more comments and favs.

Second, this deviation was featured on the popular section of deviantart. If I correctly remember, when it appeared on the frontpage, it wasn't even on the first or second page of the last 24 hours most popular deviations. As such, something must have gotten it into frontpage. It wasn't for the favs, because it had almost none. Was it for the pageviews? I dunno, because there were already deviations on the popular page with as much pageviews as this one, and a lot more favs, which didn't make it to the frontpage.

Third - the REAL problem here is that this photo shouldn't have made it to the frontpage according to the notion that we have of a fair way to feature works, namely number of favs or pageviews/favs ratio!

Fourth - I'm not against featuring unknow deviations on the frontpage. That's why we have two popular sections and the a STAFF PICK section, where this photo could've appeared.

In conclusion, the problem is in the current algorithm of selecting deviations. I know that deviantart is working on it and it should be solved. As so, if you have any complaints or suggestions to make, make it to the deviantart staff!

I find it quite sad to see so many people being rude and stupid to the person who created this drawing, which never chose to be featured. You should think twice and direct your energies to where they are needed, instead of putting someone down just because you're better at being irrational than reasonable.

Amy is wrong and right.

For me, it is wrong. I don't feel that way. I just feel that a low quality art shouldn't be worth that much. I know other artist who more quality art, that never made the front page.

For most, that just spammed you with flames, then yes they are jealous.

Anyway, so instead of being stuck up. I suggest you enjoy your spotlight before it fades. :D

I would like to know how this got on the front page, when it was nearly 1 page of comments. I'm rather suspicious.

Secondly, I'm sorry but this art needs work. You drew out of the lines, and the grungy lines of ink made it look more clumpy and bruised. The stem looks awkward because we don't see the base of the rose. If that is what it is...A rose...

Thirdly, art isn't everything. If you consider art everything then there is no need to make art. :| There are rules in art for a reason. To learn, and to practice those rules in order to get a better art piece. That is why we have a critique system.

Please, don't be disillusional and tell this artist that her art is just great! If you think it's great then why? Do you like how elementary her art is? Explain. That also goes for people who bash. Why do you hate it? For the elementary feel? Explain. :D

It's not that hard. :| To be honest, I only add my opinion when I like it. If I hate it, I won't comment or I simple won't add my opinion. That goes for the flamers, and the flamers who flamed original flamers. Just because you took the side to support the artwork doesn't mean you are 'holier then thou' status.

So please, all parties stop being disillusional and just get back on topic: Critique.

1- Suspicious of what?
2- That's the style I work with in this pic. And does the base even matter? You were able to tell that it was a rose, if that's what you were arguing against
3- There are no rules in art
4- Do you need a reason for everything?
5- You're one of those OCD people aren't you

Thanks for your input

Um. I was very polite. So I suggest you stop with the childish name calling, little dear. Do you even know what OCD really is? It is when someone so obsessed with a task that they can't get their mind out of that one activity, which becomes an obsession and they don't do anything else but that.

Or here is an example from a website about OCD:

"Ashley once went to Halifax and was walking along the sidewalk with her friends. She stepped on something yucky, but didn't think much about it until they got to the hotel. The idea came to her that it was a condom, and probably she would now get AIDS from it. She asked her friends what they thought. She asked her mom. Ashley was 15 and had never even kissed someone and was at zero risk for AIDS. She called the AIDs Hotline at least twice a day for assurance. She begged to go to the doctor for more tests. She read every book she could about AIDS. When she started talking about her funeral arrangements, her mother took her to the doctor who sent her to the psychiatrist."

I hope you don't throw around OCD as if it is something to be taken lightly. Not only are you being immature, but you are also disrespecting many people who are diagnosed with this problem.

To rewrite your sentence as what you were trying to get across:

"You're one of those people who are very detailed-oriented, aren't you?"

:D See? Is it that hard to not be disrespectful?

I'm suspicious because that you are new, and that your peice isn't exactly what is front page worth. It's just brings about curiousity on how such a low quality piece of artwork got on the DeviantArt front page. I'm telling you the truth. Accept it or deny it, I don't care.

The style I can understand. However, I can tell the difference between "style of gruge" to "poor quality art". How? Because you had no control. I have been looking at art for a good portion of my life. Unless you give me another example of your art, then I would reconsider. However, I have looked at your other pieces and they are at the same level.

It would have looked nice if you couldn't see the base and pulled it off well, however by the angle the stem needed to spread apart to hint at there is a base and not just a long stem.

To be honest, I wasn't sure what it was. I thought it was an artichoke at first. Then I realized that you were attempting to draw a flower(by your title), then I saw the stem and go,"Oh okay, so a rose is what you were trying to draw."

Dear, have you gone to an Art School? If you have then you would know that there are Rules in art. Not so much as "Rules" but Guidelines to allow you artwork to be more pleasing to the eye, and better! Trust me, I'm not putting you down I'm trying to make you understand that art like this won't make it far in real art world/industry.

Yes, because once I state my opinion I back it up with reasons to give you, to reassure you that I'm not flaming you. ;)

Hm. You already know how I feel about your childish behavior.

No problem, but next time don't attack me simple because I'm giving you advice. :D

So take this advise and stop thinking I'm out to hurt you. If anything I want you to improve yourself, and stop being illusioned that there is no problems with your art. Because once you think like that then you don't bother to improve your art. :(

Anyway, have a nice night :3

Yes I did. :D

Okay, sense you are lazy. Here is the key points:

--Don't call people by psychological problems. It is very disrespectful, and rude to those who do have it.

--True art has Concept, Craftsmanship, and Composure. Your artwork has bad Craftsmanship, the concept is lacking, and the composure is alright. That is why I call your art low-quality because it lacks in those areas. I first I thought your "rose" was an artichoke.

D: I'm glad I'm not grouped with the "jackass" people.

I'm just concerned that you might grow ignorant of your art, and won't improve.

Tip: I would look up some art or flower books in the library. It will help you immensely with your art if you keep practicing.

Anyway, bai :D

I don't want perfect. I like crap.
Just kidding. I dunno, I was tired and bored.

I'm a lot better than I used to be, but I don't think I would've got there by people telling me; "That's shit. But if you practice, you might get better."
I kept going because I always had people telling me; "Hey, that looks really good," even when my work was shockingly bad as I'd see it now.
I think it's dangerously easy to unconsciously bash something and then chant the 'constructive criticism' mantra to yourself; "It's all good, it's constructive crit.."

Anyway, I do like this pic, but there is room for improvement. It does look like it's something that didn't take alot of time to draw, and the coloring isn't exactly the smoothest. But a good pic overall.
